Grown As Nature Intended! Sun, Rain & Living Soil
No Chemicals. No Tilling. Just a healthy community.
No Chemicals. No Tilling. Just a healthy community.
At B30 Farm, we raise free-range laying hens, medicinal herbs, and delicious, organic vegetables. The only soil amendments used in the garden is composted manure from our horses, who are fed hay grown and harvested here on the farm. We use no-till, organic growing techniques in the garden to preserve the healthy, biologically rich soil that feeds the plants that feed us. No machinery is used in the garden which further protects the soil structure to maximize water absorption and availability for the plants, so no need for irrigation.
Our philosophy is the outcome of decades working in biology and technology that led to this blinding flash of the obvious: Plants and animals have evolved over thousands of years to thrive in a complex, NATURAL system. What that means for us is that we don't need to apply chemical fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides, if we just mimic the conditions that the plants evolved to live in. Maintaining hedge rows and wild flowers (aka, "weeds") along the garden boundaries provides living spaces for the predator insects that keep plant pests under control. Maintaining a good organic matter level in the soil ensures that plants have all the macronutrients they need. Minimizing bare soil through inter-seeding and minimal weeding also contributes to crop health as these plants are interacting with each other through the fungal network in the soil, as well as reducing water loss. Preserving soil structure through no-till ensures that the soil biome (bacteria, fungi, etc.) are available to provide the plant nutrients that it can't make on its own.
The more complete nutrition we provide to the plant, the more nutrition, and medicine, it provides to us!
At B30 Farm, we are committed to preserving the natural community, providing a safe, healthy and humane environment for our animals, and producing clean, nutritious and healthy food and plant medicines. As a 21 year veteran of the U.S. Army, B30 is also committed to helping veterans where possible. Working with living things, out of doors is a great way to mitigate PTSD and other wounds suffered from being in the military. We also support other farmers, most of whom are also serious stewards of their land. And no, ruining thousands of acres of productive farm land to put up solar panel arrays IS NOT ecologically sound, and in 30 years all those panels are going to create another problem when they go into the landfill.
